Pancham the Great! A Blast from the Past ……

With the recognition that our beloved ARR ( rehman) is getting ( albeit for the wrong movie I dare suggest ) , sometimes I feel if the old great R D Burman would be at the same time locking horns with our contemporary maestero. Wishful thinking this ….

Still we can go back to the past to have a firsthand feeling of the melody again. Iam sharing a downloadable link of one of his unforgettable movie compositions of all time “ Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin” in 1977 starring Rishi Kapoor .

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rahul_Dev_Burman

Just have a look at the the list of the songs & go back up & punch the download button .The whole album actually resembles a great ODI match with one maestero Kishore da belting out peppy songs like Sachin & interspersed between those belters you’ll find silken drives from Dravid , songs from Rafi.

Ah Dil Kya Mehfil Hai Tere - Kishore Kumar ( My favourite of the album , a short 2 minute song , but worth the price of reading this whole blog entry.)
Bachna Ae Haseeno - Kishore Kumar ( U must have heard the Ranbeer Kapoor copy , but have a tilt at the original . U’ll cherish it hearing this time.)
Chand Mera Dil - Mohd.Rafi ( A classic in the true sense . great example of RDB artistry . Starts as a thunderous rocker & in the middle changes its clour like a reptile. Also hear this for RDB trademark “Wakao”)
Hum Kisise Kum Nahin - Mohd.Rafi & Asha Bhosle ( Panchamda started the trend for kawwali’s in 70’s carried on admirably by Rehman these days)
Humko To Yaara Teri Yaari - Kishore Kumar & Asha Bhosle ( A good song albeit a momentum breaker in this great album)
Kya Hua Tera Wada - Mohd.Rafi ( A career reviving song for Mohd. Rafi , got a filmfare for this one . A must listen for romantics)
Mil Gaya Humko Saathi - Kishore Kumar & Asha Bhosle ( Peppy , fast pitched song)
Tum Kya Jano Mohabbat Kya Hai - R.D Burman ( Panchamda started the trend of lending his different voice to his compositions . Listen to this rocket.
Yeh Ladka Hai Allah Kaisa Hai - Asha Bhosle ( a great Asha hummer).
If you are still reading , I won’t ask you to download the songs ,as connoisseurs among you folks already are on their song players.

Congrats! Roger ……

A period of 3 months. What can happen in your life ? Take a slice of of life from this gentlemen’s last 3 months .

· Lost to his greatest rival in hunt for his 14th & record equalizing grand slam . Lost in the 5th set , third time in last 4 grand slam finals to a single creature. Could not handle the pressure & cried showing full emotion in front of 20000 spectators .

· Lost to a newbie challenger just for fifth time in a row .

· World’s best available coach refused to coach the gentleman after a 7 day trial.

· Girlfriend for last 9 years got pregnant.

· Received best sportsman spirit award for 5th time in a row .

· Made worldwide headlines & a you tube favourite when he smashed a racket on court after 5 years of model gamesmanship.

· Accepted Monte Carlo wildcard at the last moment after deciding to shun the masters tournament this time.

· Got married to girlfriend just 2 days before the tournament begins .

All the above in the period of three turbulent months from Jan 15th to April 15th . It might not have made news if the concerned gentleman is not the most famous tennis player on the globe.

I cant tell whether this is a good time to be Roger Federer or not . As Pete Bodo says Fed is on the Third Stage of Greatness , these things might become the part of the folklore after 5-10 years . At this moment , we can’t safely say where this Jet is going to land . After flying more or less on target for last 5 glorious years , the flight is facing turbulence . We prey that it would remain a temporary blip in Rogers career .

The marriage is also a decision which might be career-changing for the great Swiss . Only 3 men have won a grand slam after marriage since 2000 . And roger has won 13 being a bachelor . So he has a happy headache to face . Things like changing a diaper in the middle of the night may bring chaos if this happens before Wimbledon finale. We hope this wedding to Mirca wil bring stability to the applecart & make Fed regain his lost mojo.

P.S.-I hoped that I didn’t have to write a post on fed back to back , but circumstances forced me & I don’t regret it either.

I Shall Vote! Should I?

Iam 28. I’ve still not voted yet! Not in Legislative Assembly, not even in LokSabha. I may not be able to vote this time also. I’ve seen 4 LS polls & an equal no. of State polls also. It’s not that I’ve an aversion to vote like a toddler has with needles. It’s just that I’ve been changing locations so often after I’ve turned 18 , I’ve never got the opportunity of getting into official voter lists .

Its just that or something else . Till recently I’ve always thought so . But I’ve come to recognize that its very easy to register to vote if you have a valid address proof & a valid Indian identity proof. Just go to the site given below

I was under the impression that it must be very difficult to get your name registered in a city voting list if you shuttle in & out very frequently to different parts of the country. But I was surprised to know that, you have to spend just 6 months in a place to get you registered for voting there.

I bet most of us are unaware of the fact.

Most of us have seen Aamir Khan campaigning for voting in several commercials. If you have seen one of his interviews, you will appreciate the fact that celebrities like him are using their charisma to get even 1% of the voters to vote, and then it’s a fruitful exercise. Now comes the issue of choosing the right candidate where all meat of discussion lies.

Who to Vote?

People never go beyond the party credentials and move to the manifesto. You have to study at least the candidate background & what he proposes in future for the constituency. Our democracy will be a real one only if candidates with real potential would go to the parliament. Imagine doctors , engineers , MBA’s going to the parliament . KRA’s defined for every parliamentarian , & assessment annually . Okay , Okay , I’m daydreaming here . but the crux of the matter is , I want to see my vote go to a person who takes responsibility of atleast his constituency . Sum total of all responsible candidates will make a healthy democracy . And it may improve our nation’s poor ranking as visible here .

8 x 10 Tasveer – A Review

8 x 10 Tasveer – A Review
Reviews warned me not to waste hard earned 120 bucks on this crap, especially in the times of recession. But what else is there to see in this abysmal period that the Bollywood is in. So my advice to anyone who still has time & money to waste in the weekend, better hire a DVD of Taken or Watchmen to see better crap.

What is this with all Hindi filmmakers who think future watching must be a great formula to make a good thriller. It might be true if pacing is correct & it binds the viewer till the end. Aa dekhen Jara , tasveer & the next week upcoming movie Kal Kissne dekha all seem to have the same convoluted storyline Ctrl C Ctrl V’ed from some Hollywood thriller back in 90’s.

Now , something about the movie if you are still reading the piece. Jai (Akshay Kumar ) plays a Forest Ranger working for EPS ( Environment Protection service ) with a setup in Canada , who has estranged links with his family as his father is a business tycoon with Oil fields or whatever . Now, his father is killed in a freak drowning accident even after being an excellent swimmer. Jai only has a photograph of his father with his friends to work on .

To utter amazement to viewers, Akshay has a gift of getting inside the picture to find out the history behind it. Even if you are able to suppress the over the top theories the film provides, you would be disappointed to know that the movie which was running helter skelter till the climax comes which is one of the freakiest in the recent history.

Catch the movie if you are a diehard fan of Akshay ( If you are , you probably won’t bother to read this ). My advice : save money , or donate to EPS !
